Tena koutou

I'm really excited about the work we're embarking on at present. The time has come to consider the vision and values that guide our practice at DNI. It's been many years since this was last done and we'd like to be sure that the vision and values we work towards fairly represent our community.

It's really important to us that we're on the same page as parents and caregivers and that we support each other in educating the tamariki in our community. This survey http://tinyurl.com/dnivalues is being sent to all members of our current school community and also to all Year 4-6 families from our contributing schools.

We have already spent some time looking at the values contained in the New Zealand Curriculum, the words you will find below are the values/concepts we consider have the most significance in educational success. We're interested to know what you think. We have a teacher only day planned for May 27 which will allow us some time to analyse your responses and draft a new vision and values.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Next Week is Food Tech Module Canteen Week ...
Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, our food tech cooks will be tantalising taste buds with their sensational menus, with different options available across the 3 days.
For full menu details, visit the office or check out their website: canteen.treepadev.com
Orders at the office on the day.

School security
Over weekend we had bolts to the woodwork shed and the bike shed cut. This required some effort! If you are around the school after hours, or if you saw anything suspicious over the weekend please do let us know or call the police.

Zorb Football!
Last Thursday DNI kids had a great time and raised $155.80 in the process for the Otago Down Syndrome Association.

Strike Percussion

index.jpg

On Thursday 19 May the Wellington based Strike Percussion group will be performing at school. The cost of the performance is $5 per child which we will cover if required but we do ask that all children bring a donation of up to $5 if at all possible. Additional extra’s like this are a real balancing act for schools. We really want children to have the experience, but we struggle with funding such things. If you are able to support the programme with a donation this would be much appreciated.

Teacher Only Day
On Friday May 27 school will be closed to students so the staff can undertake some professional development.

Entertainment Book Fundraiser

Skateboard and Scooter Safety
We have a good number of students riding skateboards and scooters to and at school. This is great to see, and we really promote this pro-active physical activity. We are concerned however about safety and we're considering making helmets compulsory. We would value your feedback about this. Please email office@dni.school.nz with your thoughts.

Student Accounts and Payments
We will be trialling emailing student accounts rather than posting - this will save lots in time, paper and postage!  We are aiming to have these in your inbox next week.

And, if you would like to make regular direct payments for your child’s account or one off payments such as sports fees via internet banking, our details are below.

Dunedin North Intermediate   03-1726-0033914-00

Please mark clearly in the reference fields the name of your child, and what the payment is for.
