Tena koutou,

Kia hora te marino
Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana
Hei huarahi mā tātou i te rangi nei
Aroha atu, aroha mai
Tātou i a tātou katoa

May peace be widespread
May the sea be like greenstone
A pathway for us all this day
Let us show respect for each other
For one another
Bind us all together

We met as a school this morning to acknowledge the crazy events of the past 72 hours. We are determined that the actions of this unhinged individual will not take any more of our time or energy as this will be much better served in looking after those who have had their lives turned upside down by his actions.
Maintaining routine and relationships at school is important for all children.  We have student-led plans to support those directly affected and we're working on doing something later in the week. We'll also be careful to balance these events with a consistent routine at school.
There is significant content on social media about this event.  We remind you as parents about monitoring what your children are exposed to.  If you are concerned, please contact Netsafe. We also take this opportunity to again suggest that age limits on social media platforms (13+) and games such as Fortnite are there for a good reason and in light of this event it might be a good time to revaluate your child's access to such material. It is our strong recommendation that children of intermediate age are not on social media and are not playing online killing games of any form.
We need to look out for each other at present so please do let us know if we can support you at all or if you know someone, a neighbour, a friend, a colleague who you are worried about.
Ngā mihi
Heidi Hayward
