DNI Swimming Sports plus Outdoor Education Opportunities

Swimming Sports:
A reminder that the DNI Swimming Sports are taking place on Friday at Moana Pool. This is a fun, whole school event which celebrates swimmers of all abilities and we are looking forward to seeing all of the school there challenging themselves to achieve their own personal goals. Here are some important pieces of information about the day.

LEAVING TIME: Buses will be leaving school at 9.05am so children will need to be at school on time. If they are not at school by this time, parents will need to transport them straight to Moana Pool. The event is scheduled to finish at approximately 12.30pm and we will return to school shortly after that.

WHAT’S NEEDED: Children will need to bring their togs, 2 towels (one to wrap around them between races and another to dry themselves at the end), googles, swimcap if required, morning tea and a water bottle. To show their support, children are encouraged to wear mufti in clothing colours that match that of their house group. However no face paint or wigs etc that might leave a mess are allowed. If students choose not to wear house colours, the school PE uniform will be worn.

SICKNESS: As with the rest of the swimming programme, children who are unable to participate in the school programme through sickness will need to stay at home. We simply do not have the available staffing to supervise the swimming sports and also children who are not well enough to participate so if your child is at school we expect they are participating in this school event. The exceptions to this are of course injured students (for instance in plaster/fibreglass casts) or students with a medical certificate.

PHONES/TECHNOLOGY: The Swimming Sports is tech free event so phones/devices will need to be left at home or students can ask classroom teachers to lock them away at school.

EVENT SCHEDULE: The schedule for the day is linked below. Whanau are welcome to come and watch, though the times listed are only approximate as it is difficult to know exactly how long events will take.

Outdoor Education Opportunities
The Outdoor Leadership/Institute of Sport and Adventure course run at the Otago Polytechnic is again offering us some places on outdoor pursuits training in August and September. Students will go in groups of 8-16 and we'll decide upon the days they go, and the groupings, based on the school time table. There are limited places so it will be first in, first served.  Please register via the link below:
