Newsletter - Friday 25 October 2019

Dates to remember:

  • Monday 28 October - Labour Day Holiday - School Closed
  • Monday 4 - Thursday 7 November - Summer Electives Week
  • Friday 8 November - Teacher Only Day - School closed to students (see below)
It's all go here! Electives planning is well underway and both staff and students are getting excited. We are also in the midst of Year 6 interviews and the high school orientation days are just around the corner. It is hard to reconcile the crop of young adults that will soon leave us, with the young children I interviewed this time two years ago, but that is of course the beauty of intermediate schooling.

We are excited to be opening an extra classroom next year, our enrolments have been thick and fast and so in order to keep class numbers manageable we'll be opening an extra classroom next year. There will be more information about this in the coming weeks.

Nga mihi,
Student success:
Lots of budding artists to celebrate this time!  Congratulations to Aisha Rizwan who won the Intermediate section of the Knox Church city-wide Art Competition "Art of Earth's Sake", with her piece "Ice, Ice Baby".

DNI also did very well at the recent Otago Art Society's Youth Art Awards, even winning the "Best School" prize (and along with that $200 Art Zone vouchers) with a special mention made of our printmaking! (see right

In the individual entries, DNI students also did very well winning first and second prizes!!!

Congratulations to Poppy Jacobson who placed first with her very cool felt diorama and Haika Palmer who placed second with his amazing drawing (see below)
On the sporting front we'd like to congratulate the large group of DNI students who were selected for the Otago Rugby League Rep Teams - Shelby Lockerbie, Manaia Lesa, Noah Piri, Noah Norton-Geddes, Zak Corbett, Jake Palmer, Ben Taufa and Dom McRae.

Both the Otago Girl's and the Boy's teams won their age group sections at the Southern Zone Tournament

Reminder - Teacher Only Day
