Reminder - Classroom Planning for Year 7's (2020 Year 8's)
If you haven't already, please complete the survey at this link that allows you to provide some comment about classroom placement for your child in 2020.  We start the jigsaw puzzle in late November and once classes are set we are not able to make changes so please do make sure you have your say before November 20

Green Mufti Day - Friday 22 November:
Anna (Room 14) has been working with Tahu Mackenzie from the Orokonui Ecosanctuary to support the work they are doing for the Kakapo.  To show our support DNI are having a mufti day this Friday.   Wear green/yellow (Kakapo colours) - gold coin donation please.

Tahu will be back in on Friday at Assembly to give out some prizes (from the Ecosanctuary) to the best Kakapo inspired outfits!  


DNI at Creek Fest:
On Sunday 17 November the Valley Projects Annual Creek Fest took place. DNI was well represented by the Envirogroup, performers and attendees. Here is the visual narrative of our participation:

Student success:

Mana Awards
Congratulations to the following students who have earned their Taonga (our top award as part of our Mana system) - Aisha Rizwan, Manaia Lesa, Jack Aubin and Sophie Orchiston

We've had ICAS results back for Mathematics, Science, Spelling Bee and Digital so far and would like to acknowledge the following students for their outstanding results. Gaining a Distinction places their results in the top 10% of students in New Zealand who took part in these tests and a High Distinction places their results in the top 1%!!!   :

Micah Bradburn-Hay Distinction - Spelling Bee
Geordie Stephenson Distinction - Mathematics
Cambell Drake Distinction Mathematics; High Distinction in Spelling Bee, Digital and Science.

Otago University Problem Solving Competition
Otago problem solving is a competition that is run over the year with students all over NZ participating. A number of students at DNI were part of this and had to answer five math problems in each set, completing five sets over the year. We had three students Cambell Drake, Aubrey Alsop-Mackie and Jun-Heng Wu who gained an excellence and advanced on to the final problem challenge which only the top students in NZ were invited to do.

Aubrey and Cambell have gain an distinction in this which again only the top students get. Well done to all students who competed and especially to Cambell, Aubrey and Jun Heng.

These awards will be presented this Friday at Assembly, 2pm in the Hall - parents/caregivers are welcome to attend.

Table Tennis
Table Tennis wound up for the year at the start of November and DNI teams won both the B and C divisions of the Dunedin Intermediate Competition!  Congratulations to Div B team DNI Super-Smash (Logan Bosworth and Riley Schaffer) and Div C team DNI 2 Fast 2 Furious (Ben Richards and Finn Dixon-Stewart)
At Labour Weekend when the rest of us were having a well needed break, we had a DNI waterpolo team was playing at the South Island Schools  Waterpolo Competition, going on to place 4th in their grade.

Holly Wright got selected for the South Island Tournament Team over all the teams that entered the Labour Weekend competition - well done Holly!
