Alert Level 2 at School Guidelines

Morena koutou,

The shift in alert levels announced by the Prime Minister last night was the last thing any of us wanted to hear, but it's great to know that action is happening quickly to try and protect our 'community transmission free' status.
Thank you for your patience this morning. I can now confirm that:
  • Alert Level 2 applies from midday today.
  • At Alert Level 2 it is safe for all students, children and staff to attend school and early learning.
  • Children and staff who are at higher risk of severe illness are encouraged to take additional precautions when leaving home - this does not mean they should not attend school.
  • The DNI Board agreed to continue with the additional cleaning measures for all of 2020 and so we already have increased cleaning procedures in place
  • Please continue to be alert to illness. We'll resume asking anyone who is presenting as unwell to go home so you need to be more cautious than usual leaving home if you or your child is unwell
  • Good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette will be reinforced - we will resume our coloured system of hand washing between zones at school (copied below)
  • Soap and water remain very appropriate for washing hands, particularly if hand sanitiser stocks are low. We have plenty.
  • For schools, children, young people and staff should be far enough away from each other so that they are not breathing on or touching each other, coupled with good hygiene practices and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces. There does not need to be a specific measurement but where practicable and reasonable 1 metre can be used as a guide, particularly between adults
  • Physical distancing of 2 metres is recommended for people outside of school (public) so as at midday today we ask that parents/caregivers, and people who do not work at DNI, do not enter the DNI buildings. Signage will go up today. Please phone or email the office if you need help.
  • Contact tracing remains a priority through our visitor register, timetable and attendance register. We will also support the community by displaying the QR code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer App.
  • Masks are not required at schools and early learning services at Alert levels 2 and 3.
