Message for Caregivers of Students who use Bus Transport

It has come to our attention today that a student was asked to get off a bus this morning. This has led to us having our 'annual start-of-year bus meeting' to consider what is appropriate behaviour when using a public bus.

The students were really good at identifying what is considered appropriate or considerate behaviour on the bus. They were also pretty good at identifying where they sat on the continuum of 'appropriate behaviour versus inappropriate behaviour.'  We spent some time considering whether people were being honest with themselves about their self-assessment, and asked people to reflect on what others were saying about their behaviour.

We ended the meeting by thanking the students who have been behaving appropriately and asking those who either identified themselves (or were identified by others) as not upholding the school values, to consider their behaviour on the bus going forward.

It is important to note that catching the bus is not a right that comes without responsibility and that students who are not able to live up to the responsibility that comes with catching the bus may need to find alternative means of transport.
