On Friday, May 16 we'll be having a non-uniform day to recognise Pink Shirt Day.
Pink Shirt Day is a part of a powerful movement to spread aroha and kindness and address bullying. Students are invited to wear pink on this day. It is an optional non-uniform day, and there is no expectation to bring money.
It is however, a nice segue into our annual reminder about chat groups that provide platforms for bullying. Just today I have been looking at a series of TikTok accounts that serve no other purpose than to spread rumours and make uninvited comments about people.
Using the Dunedin North Intermediate logo without permission as a fraudulent representation of our school. I will be talking to students about this tomorrow. I am aware that many of these accounts are old, but I have also looked through some of the content that is very definitely recent, and is very definitely related to current students and there are a number of nasty strings of communication that appear to be publicly connected to the school.
I suggest that you discuss this with your child, ask them to show you their accounts, and have them removed ASAP. I can see a number of the names of people who are posting, and we will start taking action around these students in the next couple of days if these accounts are not shut down promptly.
